Terms and Conditions

Understand the terms and conditions of using OriginalityReport.com for plagiarism and AI content detection services. Stay informed and compliant.

Last Updated: August 30, 2026

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) set out the rules that apply to your access to and use of OriginalityReport.com. They cover the website, user accounts, plagiarism detection, AI-content detection, document comparison, private Storage, reports, API functionality, integrations, and any other products or services that OriginalityReport may make available from time to time (collectively, the “Service”).

Please review these Terms before using the Service. By registering an account, purchasing or subscribing to the Service, submitting an order, accessing paid functionality, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not accept these Terms, you should not access or use the Service.

1. Ownership and Contracting Entities

OriginalityReport.com is operated by System Technology Online Spain SL., registered in Spain, and System Tech Online USA Inc., registered in the United States.

For standard self-service purchases, the company that acts as the contracting party and merchant of record depends on the user’s location and payment method:

  • System Tech Online USA Inc., with its registered office at 5900 Balcones Dr, Ste 100, Austin, TX 78731, USA, serves as the primary contracting entity and merchant of record for card payments initiated by users located outside the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA).
  • System Technology Online Spain SL., with its registered office at Calle Pintor Pérez Gil 2, b.46, 03540 Alicante, Spain, serves as the primary contracting entity and merchant of record for payments made through PayPal regardless of user location and for card payments initiated by users in the EU/EEA.

An Order Form, enterprise agreement, or another written contract may specify a different contracting arrangement. If such an agreement applies, its provisions will take precedence over these Terms where the two documents conflict on the specific subject covered by that agreement.

In these Terms, “OriginalityReport,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the OriginalityReport contracting entity applicable to the relevant transaction or Service.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

You may use the Service only if you have the legal capacity required to enter into a binding agreement under the laws applicable to you.

If you are below the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only when such use is properly authorized and supervised as required by applicable law, including where authorization is provided by a parent, guardian, school, university, or other authorized organization.

If you access or use the Service for a company, educational institution, government organization, or another legal entity, you confirm that you have the authority to accept these Terms on that organization’s behalf.

You are responsible for:

  • supplying complete and accurate account information;
  • protecting the confidentiality of your login credentials;
  • taking reasonable steps to secure your account;
  • all activities carried out through your account or API credentials; and
  • informing us without undue delay if you discover unauthorized access or believe your account may have been compromised.

You must not share account credentials in a way that bypasses or defeats the user, account, subscription, or usage restrictions associated with your plan.

3. The Service

OriginalityReport offers technology intended to analyze submitted materials for textual similarities, potential plagiarism, AI-generated content, and other characteristics supported by the particular Service feature being used.

Depending on the functionality selected, submitted materials may be compared with publicly accessible Internet content, available reference datasets, licensed or third-party source collections, and private reference materials made available through Storage or an organization account.

Reports may contain identified or potentially relevant sources, similarity information, matching passages, and other analytical findings produced by the applicable feature.

We may periodically enhance, change, introduce, discontinue, or replace individual Service features. Where required by applicable law or an applicable agreement, we will provide notice before intentionally removing a core paid feature during an active subscription.

4. License to Use the Service

Provided that you comply with these Terms, pay all applicable charges, and remain within the usage limits of your plan, OriginalityReport grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to access and use the Service for personal, educational, internal business, or organizational purposes.

This permission does not give you ownership of the Service or any underlying software, algorithms, interfaces, trademarks, report designs, documentation, or other intellectual property belonging to OriginalityReport.

Unless applicable law expressly permits it or we have given you written authorization, you may not:

  • copy, alter, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, or create derivative products based on the Service;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to obtain source code or confidential algorithms used by the Service;
  • circumvent technical safeguards, account restrictions, rate limits, payment requirements, or usage quotas;
  • access the Service through automated methods except by means of an authorized API or another feature specifically designed for automated access;
  • systematically extract non-public Service functionality or data in order to develop, train, benchmark, or operate a competing product without our written permission;
  • interfere with the security, availability, performance, or proper operation of the Service; or
  • remove, conceal, or modify proprietary notices displayed by OriginalityReport.

5. Customer Content

“Customer Content” refers to documents, text, files, reference materials, URLs, and other information that you or your authorized users submit to the Service.

You, or the applicable owner of the relevant rights, continue to own Customer Content.

You give OriginalityReport the limited permissions needed to host, retrieve, reproduce, process, analyze, index where applicable, transmit when technically required, and otherwise handle Customer Content only to the extent reasonably necessary to:

  • deliver the Service you have requested;
  • create and maintain reports;
  • operate private Storage and document-comparison features;
  • provide customer and technical assistance;
  • identify and investigate technical or security problems;
  • detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized activity; and
  • meet applicable legal requirements.

Customer Content is not automatically turned into a plagiarism source accessible to unrelated OriginalityReport customers.

OriginalityReport does not use Customer Content submitted through the Service to train its AI or machine-learning models.

Further details concerning the processing, retention, and deletion of Customer Content are provided in our Privacy Policy.

Some services, including Paper Analysis and other services expressly identified as involving human review, may be performed entirely or partly by authorized specialists. When you order such a service, you authorize the Customer Content associated with that order to be made available to personnel who reasonably require access in order to complete the requested review.

6. Your Responsibilities for Customer Content

You remain responsible for all Customer Content you submit and for the way you use the Service.

You confirm that you have the necessary rights, permissions, legal basis, or other lawful authority to submit and process Customer Content through the Service.

This does not require you to own every piece of text submitted for a legitimate plagiarism or similarity check. For example, educators, institutions, and professional users may lawfully analyze material submitted to them or material they are otherwise authorized to review.

You must not knowingly use the Service to:

  • process material in breach of applicable law;
  • violate another person’s rights beyond what is reasonably necessary for a lawful plagiarism, academic-integrity, research, compliance, or comparable analysis;
  • submit malicious software, code, or content intended to compromise the Service;
  • obtain unauthorized access to another user’s account, documents, or information;
  • harass, threaten, exploit, or unlawfully monitor another individual; or
  • engage in fraudulent or otherwise unlawful activity.

7. Private Storage and Organization Accounts

Files placed in private Storage may be indexed so that they can serve as reference materials for comparisons within the relevant customer account.

Storage documents are not automatically made searchable or available to unrelated OriginalityReport customers.

For organization accounts, authorized users may be able to share Storage documents with other authorized members of the same organization for comparison when the applicable sharing permission has been enabled.

The organization is responsible for setting up its users, permissions, and document-sharing options correctly.

If an organization administers your account, that organization may have administrative access to account information, submissions, reports, and Storage content according to its permissions and the applicable agreement.

8. API Use

If API functionality is included in your plan, you may use the API only in accordance with these Terms, the limits of your plan, and the technical documentation supplied by OriginalityReport.

You are responsible for keeping API credentials secure and for all requests submitted using those credentials.

You must not:

  • exceed the API rate or usage restrictions applicable to your plan;
  • attempt to manipulate or bypass usage measurement, accounting, or billing mechanisms;
  • use the API in a way that disrupts the Service or creates an unreasonable load on its infrastructure; or
  • give unauthorized third parties access to your API credentials.

API operations may be completed asynchronously. Where the functionality is supported, customers may use status requests and callback mechanisms to obtain or retrieve processing results.

9. Analytical Results and Appropriate Use

OriginalityReport reports are analytical resources intended to help users assess submitted materials.

Similarity findings, source matches, AI-detection outputs, and other automated results should be considered together with the underlying evidence and, where appropriate, human review.

A similarity percentage alone does not establish that plagiarism has taken place. Similarly, an AI-detection result alone does not conclusively establish who authored a document.

The availability of sources may depend on circumstances outside OriginalityReport’s control, including third-party indexing, source availability, access restrictions, website settings, and changes made to external websites.

Reports should not be treated as the sole basis for disciplinary, employment, legal, academic, or other decisions with significant consequences without suitable independent review.

10. Fees, Plans, and Usage

The Website or applicable Order Form displays the current prices, plan restrictions, subscription periods, and usage included with each Service.

You agree to pay all charges associated with the plan or Service you select.

Depending on the product, usage may be calculated according to words, submissions, documents, API requests, or another unit specified for the applicable plan.

Where applicable, OriginalityReport may operate a fair-use or fair-words mechanism under which the consumption of a word balance can be adjusted for qualifying duplicated text that has previously been processed through the Service.

Prices and applicable taxes are displayed or calculated during checkout as required. You are responsible for taxes applicable to your purchase except where OriginalityReport is legally required to collect or remit them.

Payments may be handled by independent payment processors. The payment options available to you are shown during checkout and may change over time.

11. Subscriptions, Renewal, and Cancellation

If you purchase a recurring subscription, it will automatically renew at the billing interval presented at the time of purchase unless you cancel it before the next renewal date.

You may cancel a recurring subscription through the cancellation option provided in your account or by contacting OriginalityReport using the support channels available on the Website.

Cancellation prevents future renewals. Unless applicable law provides otherwise, it does not cancel a billing period that has already started and does not by itself create an entitlement to a refund for charges that have already been made.

Normally, you may continue using the paid functionality included in your subscription until the end of the period already paid for, unless your access is suspended or terminated under these Terms.

Products or usage packages purchased on a non-recurring basis will not renew automatically unless the purchase terms expressly state otherwise.

12. Trials and Evaluation Access

OriginalityReport may, at its discretion, offer free trials, promotional balances, evaluation allowances, or other forms of no-cost access.

The duration, usage limits, eligibility requirements, and available functionality of trial or evaluation access may differ from paid plans and may be modified or withdrawn where legally permitted.

Unless we specifically agree otherwise, an individual customer or organization may be limited to one trial or evaluation allocation.

Business and institutional customers may receive additional evaluation capacity as part of a technical assessment or controlled pilot program.

13. Refunds and Consumer Withdrawal Rights

Voluntary Refund Policy

Unless applicable law requires otherwise, payments made for the Service are not refundable once paid usage has taken place.

OriginalityReport may review a refund request concerning the most recent billing period under its voluntary refund policy when:

  • the request is made within 5 calendar days after the relevant charge; and
  • no paid Service usage has taken place during that billing period.

For this voluntary refund policy, paid usage may include submitting a paid document, making a paid API request, or using another paid feature or balance.

This voluntary refund policy does not provide refunds for earlier billing periods.

Refund requests may be sent to support@originalityreport.com.

Failed Processing

If a plagiarism-checking task reaches an Error or Failed status and does not produce the applicable report, the usage balance charged for that unsuccessful check will be returned in accordance with the Service’s billing logic. Returning a usage balance does not constitute a monetary refund of a subscription or purchase.

Mandatory Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms removes or restricts any mandatory refund, cancellation, withdrawal, conformity, or other consumer protection right that cannot legally be excluded.

Consumers located in the EU/EEA may, where applicable, have a statutory right to withdraw from an eligible distance-service contract within 14 days after the contract is concluded, subject to the requirements and exceptions established by applicable law.

Any charge for Service supplied during a withdrawal period, any reduction in a refund, or any loss of a statutory withdrawal right will apply only where the conditions required under applicable law have been met.

Where a statutory withdrawal right applies, you may exercise it using any withdrawal functionality provided by OriginalityReport where required by law, or by sending a clear statement of your decision to withdraw to support@originalityreport.com.

14. Support and Service Availability

OriginalityReport offers customer and technical assistance through the support channels made available on the Website.

The time needed to investigate or resolve a support request may vary according to the type and complexity of the issue.

Unless an Order Form, enterprise agreement, or Service Level Agreement expressly states otherwise, the standard Service does not guarantee:

  • a particular support response or resolution time;
  • a specified Service uptime percentage;
  • a fixed report-completion time; or
  • a particular level of source coverage.

Processing times may differ based on document length, the quantity and availability of potential sources, retrieval of external material, system demand, and other technical circumstances.

15. Third-Party Services and Integrations

The Service may use, connect to, or rely upon third-party websites, payment processors, cloud services, APIs, data sources, and other integrations.

Such services may include payment providers, cloud-storage connections, analytics services, infrastructure providers, and external sources used when analyzing submitted documents.

Your use of a third-party service may also be governed by that provider’s own terms of use and privacy policies.

OriginalityReport is not responsible for the independent operation, content, availability, or practices of third-party services that are outside our reasonable control.

16. Privacy and Data Processing

Information about how we handle personal data and Customer Content is provided in our Privacy Policy information.

The use of cookies and similar technologies is explained in our Cookie Policy.

Where OriginalityReport processes personal data on behalf of a business, educational institution, or another organization and applicable law requires a controller-processor agreement, the relevant processing will be subject to appropriate binding data-processing terms, including a Data Processing Addendum (DPA) where applicable. Such terms may be included in an Order Form or another written agreement.

If a DPA, Order Form, enterprise agreement, or other separate written contract applies, its provisions will take precedence over these Terms where there is a conflict concerning the particular subject matter covered by that agreement.

17. Confidentiality

Business and institutional customers may exchange information that is marked as confidential or that should reasonably be understood to be confidential based on its nature and the circumstances in which it was disclosed.

Each party agrees to take reasonable measures to protect such confidential information and to use it only for purposes connected with the parties’ relationship, unless disclosure is authorized by the other party or required by law.

Confidential information does not include information that:

  • is publicly available or becomes publicly available without violation of a confidentiality obligation;
  • was already lawfully known to the receiving party without confidentiality restrictions;
  • is lawfully obtained from a third party that is not subject to a confidentiality obligation; or
  • is independently created without using the other party’s confidential information.

18. Intellectual Property

OriginalityReport and its licensors retain all ownership rights, title, and interest in the Service and its underlying technology, including software, algorithms, interfaces, designs, trademarks, logos, documentation, report formats, and other intellectual property.

Your ownership rights in Customer Content are not transferred to OriginalityReport.

Subject to these Terms, you may access and download reports generated for your account for legitimate personal, educational, internal business, institutional, or professional purposes.

No license or other intellectual property right is granted except for the rights expressly provided in these Terms.

19. Feedback

If you voluntarily send us suggestions, ideas, feature requests, comments, or other feedback concerning the Service, you grant OriginalityReport a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use that feedback for developing, improving, and operating its products and services, provided that this right does not transfer ownership of your Customer Content to OriginalityReport.

OriginalityReport will not publicly identify you or your organization as the source of feedback without permission where doing so would reveal a non-public customer relationship.

20. Customer Names, Logos, and Publicity

OriginalityReport will not use an organization’s name, logo, trademarks, or customer status in public marketing or promotional materials without the organization’s prior written consent.

This limitation does not prevent OriginalityReport from identifying a customer when disclosure is required by law or has been expressly authorized under a separate agreement.

21. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to some or all of the Service when reasonably necessary to:

  • respond to a material violation of these Terms or an applicable agreement;
  • protect the security, integrity, availability, or proper functioning of the Service;
  • prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, or unlawful conduct;
  • address unpaid amounts;
  • comply with applicable law, a court order, or a lawful governmental request; or
  • avoid material harm to OriginalityReport, its users, or third parties.

Where practical and legally permitted, we will provide notice before imposing a material suspension or termination and, where appropriate, allow the relevant issue to be addressed.

You may discontinue your use of the Service at any time. Recurring subscription cancellations are governed by Section 11.

After termination, Customer Content and account information will be retained or deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy, applicable law, and any separate agreement governing your account.

22. Disclaimer of Warranties

Nothing in this section excludes or restricts warranties or legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service and its reports are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

OriginalityReport does not guarantee that:

  • the Service will operate continuously or without errors;
  • all publicly available or private sources will be found or accessible;
  • all instances of similarity, plagiarism, or AI-related content will be identified;
  • every report or automated result will be complete, accurate, or free from errors; or
  • the Service will satisfy a particular purpose or requirement that has not been expressly agreed to in writing.

OriginalityReport will nevertheless provide the Service with the standard of care required by applicable law and any separate contractual obligations expressly accepted by the company.

23. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where applicable law does not permit such exclusion or limitation, including mandatory consumer protections.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, OriginalityReport and its affiliates, officers, employees, licensors, and suppliers will not be responsible for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, exemplary, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, business opportunities, goodwill, or data arising from or connected with the Service, where such exclusions are legally permitted.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, the total aggregate liability of OriginalityReport arising from or relating to the standard Service or these Terms will not exceed the fees you paid to OriginalityReport for the Service during the 30-day period immediately before the event that first resulted in the claim.

This liability limitation does not apply where a separate Order Form or enterprise agreement expressly establishes a different liability arrangement.

You remain responsible for assessing reports and determining how their results should be used, including whether additional human, academic, professional, or legal assessment is necessary.

24. Indemnification by Business and Organizational Users

If you access the Service on behalf of a business, educational institution, government body, or another organization, then, to the extent permitted by applicable law, that organization agrees to indemnify and hold harmless OriginalityReport and its affiliates, officers, employees, and licensors against third-party claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable costs arising from:

  • the organization’s unlawful use of the Service;
  • Customer Content submitted without the rights, permissions, or authority required for that use;
  • a material breach of these Terms by the organization; or
  • the organization’s violation of applicable law or the rights of third parties.

This obligation does not require indemnification to the extent that a claim results from OriginalityReport’s own breach, unlawful conduct, or another responsibility that cannot legally be transferred to the customer.

25. Force Majeure

Neither party will be responsible for a delay or failure to perform an obligation, other than an obligation to make payment, when that delay or failure results from circumstances reasonably beyond the affected party’s control.

Such circumstances may include natural disasters, war, terrorism, civil disturbances, labor disputes, widespread telecommunications or infrastructure failures, government actions, major third-party network outages, or comparable events beyond reasonable control.

26. Changes to the Service and These Terms

We may revise these Terms periodically to account for changes to the Service, applicable legislation, security requirements, or our business operations.

When a material amendment is made, we will update the “Last Updated” date and provide any additional notice required by applicable law.

Changes will generally apply from their stated effective date onward. If applicable law requires affirmative acceptance of a material amendment, we will request that acceptance before the amendment becomes binding.

27. Governing Law and Disputes

Unless a separate written agreement provides otherwise, these Terms and disputes arising from or relating to them are governed by the laws of Spain, without applying its conflict-of-law rules.

This choice of law does not remove any mandatory consumer protections available under the laws applicable to the consumer that cannot legally be waived by contract.

Nothing in these Terms prevents a consumer from bringing a claim before a court or other competent authority when applicable consumer law gives the consumer that right.

Before initiating formal legal proceedings, we encourage users to contact us first so that we can try to resolve the matter directly.

28. General Provisions

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, it will be applied to the greatest extent permitted by law, while the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

If either party does not immediately enforce a provision of these Terms, that does not mean the party has permanently waived its right to enforce the provision later.

You may not transfer or assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent, except where applicable law permits otherwise. OriginalityReport may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, corporate restructuring, or transfer of substantially all relevant business assets, subject to applicable law.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, these Terms do not grant rights to third-party beneficiaries.

These Terms, together with the documents and agreements expressly incorporated into them, form the agreement governing your use of the Service. An Order Form, DPA, enterprise agreement, or another written agreement may supplement or modify these Terms for the customer to whom that agreement applies.

If these Terms are translated into another language and the translated version conflicts with the English version, the English version will prevail to the extent permitted by applicable law.
